Flight Lieutenant Steve Corbett RAF VR(T)
         

 

Flt Lt Steve Corbett joined 79 (Whitchurch) Squadron in August 2011 and was promoted to Officer in Charge (OIC) in November 2011. Prior to moving to 79 Squadron Flt Lt Corbett was the Squadron Training Officer at 24 (Market Drayton) Squadron, joining the Corps in April 2004 as a Civilian Instructor. After successfully serving two years Steve was recommended for uniformed service and graduated from the Initial Officers Training Course (IOT) at RAFC Cranwell in September 2006.

Steve is married to Jackie and has two children; Stephanie and Christina, Steve is employed by Capgemini UKI working on Government Sector information technology projects as a Senior Solutions Architect. This involves having an in-depth knowledge of how IT systems are built, configured, deployed and how systems are “joined together” and managed.

Christopher Simmons MIBMS LCGI, was Officer Commanding of 79 (Whitchurch) Squadron from December 2002 to September 2008 when he stepped down to become the Squadron Adjutant again. He was the 5th Commanding Officer since the formation of the Squadron in 1985. Prior to this he had been the Squadron Adjutant for many years. He was commissioned as an RAFVR(T) Officer in May 1995 after being a Civilian Instructor on the Squadron for 6 years. For part of this time he was an Observer in the Royal Observer Corps, which he had joined in 1963 when he lived in Oxfordshire and in which he remained until it's stand down in 1991.

Flt Lt Simmons has been awarded the Royal Observer Corps Medal and Bar, The Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal and the Cadet Forces Medal. In August 2004 he was presented with "The Commandant's Commendation" for his work with the Squadron. He gained a Licentiate in Youth Leadership and Training via the Cadet Vocational and Qualification Organisation in 2009. He is a qualified Medical Scientist, but for most of his working life was in scientific sales for various companies. He is now retired enabling him to devote more time to the Air Cadets.
